While it’s not readily apparent from the outside, many department stores have a depachika, or basement food corner. These food corners sell all kinds of interesting things. There are usually two sections in the depachika: a delicatessen area for premade dishes and an area for snacks and treats. There are a wide array of dishes in the depachika, often including Japanese, Chinese, and Western cooking. Depachika are also a good place to buy a bento, or lunch box.
