The electrical voltage in Tokyo is 100 Volt, which is a little different from the voltage in North America (120 Volt) and Central Europe (230 Volt). While most electronic devices can be plugged in and used without a problem, devices that heat up, such as hair dryers, may not function properly and could even be permanently damaged if plugged in to an outlet in Tokyo. If you wish to purchase electric appliances in Japan for use back home, it’s advised that you look for equipment designed to be used overseas.
