Local Supermarkets in Tokyo
There are thousands of supermarkets located all around Tokyo. They can be found in department stores, around stations, or even just in the neighborhood. Supermarkets carry a variety of foods, though they don’t have the same selection as Western supermarkets for some items, specifically spices and cereal. Japanese supermarkets encourage shoppers to bring their own bags, and charge a couple yen for the use of plastic bags. Local supermarkets are almost always self-bagging, so don’t expect the cashier to bag anything for you.
